Our Students

As prospective students and families learn more about ECOT, they often ask, "Who chooses ECOT, and why?"

The answer is not simple. There is no "typical ECOT student"- he or she may come from any Ohio county, any public or private school district, any racial, ethnic or socioeconomic background, and display any level of academic achievement.

ECOT provides exceptional academic flexibility to accommodate a wide variety of learning styles and special circumstances.

ECOT students have completed coursework while working to support their families, during pregnancy, while in foster care institutions, while suffering terminal illness; from home, the library, or in between work shifts; alone, with little teacher assistance or with constant parental and teacher support. Students have the freedom to learn in the environment they prefer.

Many ECOT students are learning more than they ever did in a traditional classroom and appreciate learning and education like they never have before.

The graduating classes of ECOT have grown by leaps and bounds since the first graduating class of ECOT earned their diplomas in 2001 (More information on these first graduates can be found in founder William Lager's book, "The Kids that ECOT Taught.")

Since ECOT's first graduation ceremony in June 2001, state representatives, military officers and distinguished education officials have wished ECOT's graduating seniors well in their future endeavors. ECOT graduates have attended college, pursued varied careers and joined the military.

Completing a high school degree online requires self-discipline, an ability to work independently, and strong determination - personal qualities that colleges and employers greatly value. Graduates of ECOT are highly prepared for the increasingly likely encounters with online coursework in higher education.
