Public Records Request
ECOT utilizes the following procedures regarding the availability of public records. Any person may inspect and copy the public records of the school during the regular business hours of the office in which such records are maintained provided that advance notice of such intended inspection has been given the custodian. ECOT will promptly respond to any request to inspect public records. If copies are requested, copies will be provided within a reasonable amount of time. A school employee or representative will be present during inspection of the records.
A viewer may purchase copies of the school’s public records upon payment of a fee of $.10 per copy if the request is for less than 10 pages, copying costs will be waived. ECOT is obligated to provide the documents in whatever medium the documents are requested so long as ECOT maintains or accesses the records in the requested format.
In the event a public records request is denied in whole or in part, ECOT must provide the legal basis for the denial. All public records request should be referred to the office of General Counsel. If employees have any questions concerning how to respond to a public records request, they should contact the General Counsel for guidance. No public record may be removed from the office in which it is maintained except by a member of ECOT’s Board or employee in the course of the performance of his/her duties.
The Board limits the number of records transmitted by US Mail to ten per month, unless the requesting party certifies in writing that the records or information therein will not be used or forwarded for commercial purposes as defined in the Ohio Revised Code §149.43.
